The R6 Marketplace is Ubisoft’s official player-to-player trading platform for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, designed to let players buy and sell eligible cosmetic items using R6 Credits. As of September 19, 2026, however, the Marketplace remains closed while Ubisoft works on security, fraud prevention, and broader changes to the Siege economy.

The Marketplace was introduced as a major addition to Siege because it gave players an official way to trade eligible cosmetics instead of relying on unofficial third-party markets. Its history has since taken an unexpected turn, with Ubisoft pausing the service after security and economic problems emerged.

    What Is the R6 Marketplace?

The R6 Marketplace is a web-based trading system created by Ubisoft for Rainbow Six Siege. It allows players to exchange eligible cosmetic items for R6 Credits rather than purchasing every item directly from Ubisoft’s store.

The platform was first introduced as a beta feature during Year 8 Season 4, with Ubisoft describing it as a web platform where eligible players could trade items using R6 Credits. Ubisoft also established a 10% transaction fee on sales.

The full Marketplace rollout followed during Year 9, alongside the broader development of Siege’s player economy. Ubisoft’s official roadmap records the Siege Marketplace Launch as a released feature designed to enable the buying and selling of cosmetics.

Is the R6 Marketplace Open in 2026?

No. The R6 Marketplace is currently closed.

Ubisoft stated on June 30, 2026, that the Marketplace would remain closed while the company worked on fundamental security and economy improvements. The announcement specifically cited account theft, botting, credit transfers, pricing instability, distorted item circulation, and wider economic imbalances as problems that needed to be addressed.

This is important because some third-party websites continue to publish reopening dates or predictions. Ubisoft’s own June 2026 announcement does not provide a specific reopening date, so an exact date published elsewhere should not be treated as confirmed unless Ubisoft announces it directly.

Why Was the R6 Marketplace Closed?

The Marketplace was not closed simply because of a routine maintenance problem. Ubisoft has described both security concerns and economic problems that need to be addressed before trading can safely resume.

In its January 2026 Player Protection update, Ubisoft said the Marketplace was temporarily closed while it worked on stronger account security, enhanced fraud detection, and refined economy management. The company also said it was introducing additional protections against account theft.

By June, Ubisoft provided a broader explanation. According to the company, harmful behaviors included account theft, botting, and credit transfers, with a significant share of transactions associated with malicious activity. Ubisoft also said the Marketplace had contributed to pricing instability, distorted item circulation, and other economic imbalances.

    The December 2025 security incident

The closure followed a cyberattack affecting Rainbow Six Siege in late December 2025. In its January 2026 security update, Ubisoft said player inventories had been restored and that there was no indication that players’ personal data or source code had been compromised.

Ubisoft subsequently treated Marketplace security as a larger issue requiring additional safeguards rather than simply restoring the original trading system.

That distinction matters. The company has said the goal is not merely to repair the old Marketplace but to rebuild important parts of the system so that it can operate with stronger security and a more controlled in-game economy.

How Did the R6 Marketplace Work?

When operational, the Marketplace used an order-based system rather than functioning like Ubisoft’s normal in-game store.

A buyer could search for a tradable cosmetic and enter the maximum amount they were willing to pay. The system would then look for a matching seller, with Ubisoft’s Marketplace documentation stating that it seeks the lowest available matching price.

Sellers could list eligible items at an asking price and wait for a matching buyer. Once the conditions matched, the transaction was completed.

Ubisoft’s published Marketplace documentation also states that a 10% transaction fee was retained from completed sales.

    Simple example

Suppose a tradable cosmetic had a seller asking 2,000 R6 Credits.

A player interested in buying it could place an order based on the maximum price they were prepared to pay. The Marketplace’s matching system would attempt to connect the order with an available seller.

If the order was completed, Ubisoft’s published rules indicated that a 10% transaction fee would apply to the sale amount.

The actual price of any particular cosmetic depended on supply, demand, item availability, and player activity. Prices were therefore not fixed in the same way as items sold directly through Ubisoft’s store.

    What Could Players Trade?

The Marketplace was designed for eligible cosmetic items, rather than gameplay advantages.

Ubisoft’s Marketplace documentation describes trading items such as unwanted cosmetics and weapon skins from previous seasons. However, not every item was automatically eligible for trading.

Ubisoft also stated that current-season items could be restricted from trading until a later season. This means players could not assume that every cosmetic in their inventory would immediately appear in the Marketplace.

Eligibility could therefore depend on the individual item and the rules Ubisoft applied to that category.

    Who Could Access the Marketplace?

During its operational period, Ubisoft required players to meet eligibility conditions.

For the full Marketplace rollout, Ubisoft stated that players needed at least Clearance Level 25 and two-factor authentication enabled on their Ubisoft account. Ubisoft also noted that account or in-game sanctions could affect Marketplace access.

These requirements were designed partly around account security. Two-factor authentication adds another verification step when accessing an account and can make unauthorized access more difficult.

The security requirements are particularly relevant now because Ubisoft has said stronger account protection will be part of the work required before the Marketplace can return.

R6 Marketplace vs. the Regular Siege Store

The Marketplace and Ubisoft’s normal Siege store serve different purposes.

Transaction fee10% on sales under published Marketplace rulesNot the same player-trading model
Current statusClosed as of Sept. 19, 2026Continues as part of Siege’s broader economy

The distinction is useful because the Marketplace is an exchange system, while the normal store is a publisher-controlled sales channel.

Ubisoft’s June 2026 statement also makes clear that the Marketplace is being treated as part of the wider Siege economy, not as an isolated feature.

What Does the Closure Mean for Players?

For players, the most immediate effect is that they cannot use the official Marketplace to buy or sell cosmetics while the service remains closed.

However, the closure does not mean that Rainbow Six Siege itself is unavailable. Ubisoft continues to operate Siege, and Year 11 Season 3, Operation Split Fire, launched on September 1, 2026.

The Marketplace is therefore one part of the game’s economy rather than the game’s core multiplayer service.

Players can continue playing Siege and using the game’s other systems, while Marketplace trading remains unavailable.

What Is Ubisoft Changing Before the Marketplace Returns?

Ubisoft has identified several areas that require work before it is comfortable reopening the platform.

    Stronger account security

Account protection is one of the central concerns. Ubisoft has said it is introducing stronger protections against account theft, including expanded use of app-based two-factor authentication for important features such as Ranked play and the Marketplace.

    Better fraud detection

Ubisoft also says improved fraud detection is part of the Marketplace rebuild. The objective is to identify and prevent malicious activity before it can significantly affect the trading ecosystem.

    Economic management

The third major area is the in-game economy itself. Ubisoft says the previous Marketplace contributed to pricing instability, distorted item circulation, and broader economic imbalances.

As a result, the company says the Marketplace needs to fit into a more balanced economy before it is brought back.

When Will the R6 Marketplace Come Back?

Ubisoft has not announced a specific reopening date in its latest official Marketplace statement.

Earlier in 2026, Ubisoft said the Marketplace was expected to remain closed for several months while improvements were completed.

The situation then changed in June, when Ubisoft said the Marketplace would remain closed while it rebuilt important foundations for security and economy management. The company’s latest official statement does not give players a confirmed launch day.

Therefore, websites or social-media posts claiming a precise reopening date should be treated as unconfirmed unless they are backed by a new Ubisoft announcement.

What About the R6 Marketplace Roadmap?

Ubisoft’s official Rainbow Six Siege roadmap is useful for understanding how planned features are handled, but it also warns that target dates can change.

The roadmap was updated on September 8, 2026, and identifies Year 11 Season 3, Operation Split Fire, as the latest release.

The June Marketplace announcement is more important for the current status because it directly addresses the feature and says the Marketplace will remain closed while Ubisoft works on security and economic foundations.

For this reason, players looking for the latest reopening information should prioritize new announcements from Ubisoft rather than unofficial countdowns.

    Are Third-Party R6 Marketplaces Safe?

Players should distinguish Ubisoft’s official Marketplace from independent websites using names such as “R6 Marketplace.”

Ubisoft’s own Marketplace is an official Rainbow Six Siege service. Unaffiliated websites may provide price tracking, trading information, guides, or other services, but they are not automatically endorsed by Ubisoft simply because their names contain “R6 Marketplace.”

This distinction is especially important while the official Marketplace is closed. Players should be cautious about websites requesting Ubisoft login credentials, account transfers, payment details, or other sensitive information.

Ubisoft explicitly states that buying, selling, sharing, or trading Ubisoft accounts is prohibited under its Terms of Service. The company says these activities contribute to account theft and the cheating ecosystem.

What Should R6 Players Do While the Marketplace Is Closed?

The safest approach is to rely on official Ubisoft information and avoid attempts to bypass the closure.

    Players can:

    • Keep their Ubisoft account protected with strong security measures.
    • Use two-factor authentication where available.
    • Avoid sharing or selling Ubisoft accounts.
    • Be skeptical of unofficial Marketplace reopening dates.
    • Avoid giving Ubisoft login information to third-party trading websites.
    • Check Ubisoft’s official Rainbow Six Siege news and roadmap pages for confirmed announcements.

The key point is that an unofficial website cannot make the official Marketplace reopen.

Why the R6 Marketplace Still Matters

The Marketplace represents an important change in how Siege handles cosmetic ownership and player-driven trading.

Before the Marketplace, players generally obtained cosmetics through Ubisoft’s own systems. The Marketplace introduced a mechanism in which players could place buy and sell orders for eligible items, allowing supply and demand to influence prices.

Ubisoft’s own business reporting showed that the Marketplace became an established part of the Siege ecosystem after its rollout, with the company reporting sustained Marketplace transactions.

Its closure therefore affects more than a single website. It affects a part of the game’s broader economy, particularly players interested in rare cosmetics, trading, and the value of their existing collections.
